What to say about TPU film thickness

The thickness error of mass-produced TPU films in the world is still very large. In this case, if you want to win more market shares, advanced production lines with good measurement and control technology are required.

Due to the poor control of the raw material ratio and reaction temperature of TPU film, many customers are dissatisfied and complained about the thickness error of TPU film products.

But here at Tepuyou, it is still very responsible to say: the thickness of the TPU film is really difficult to accurately control!

Since the TPU film manufacturer belongs to the elastomer, after drying and dehumidification, the TPU film is extruded through the die head after being dried and dehumidified, and then the TPU film is extruded through the die.

Generally speaking, the industry's statement is that the positive and negative tolerance of 10-wire TPU film thickness is 1 wire (0.01mm) is normal. Of course, this is also related to the thickness of the TPU film. The thinner the TPU film, the smaller the acceptable thickness tolerance.

However, the advanced testing equipment of TPU film manufacturers is often very expensive, so for many small and medium TPU film manufacturers, controlling the thickness and rejection rate of TPU film is a headache.

The increasing use of lightweight materials in the automotive industry to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions is expected to drive the growth of the TPU film market. It can be used in the production of auto parts to help reduce the body weight (about 40%). At the same time, they can also replace the rubber elements of the car.

Used in automotive applications such as doors and acoustic panels, instrumentation and anti-vibration panels, seats and airbags. The replacement or aftermarket is expected to be a new focus for the automotive industry's demand for TPU films.

Consumers are extremely price-sensitive these days, and price plays an important role in the market. The price trend of TPU film market is 25% to 35% higher than that in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific.

TPU hot melt adhesive film vs anaerobic adhesive: "Scene flexibility" difference in automotive interior bonding
2025-09-11
From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
