Introduction of TPU hot melt adhesive film

Many people who have not been in contact with TPU hot melt adhesive film products are not familiar with this relatively new product, and do not know the specific function of this kind of thing that looks a bit like a film.

TPU hot melt adhesive film is a film and glue. Speaking of glue, everyone must know that glue is used to glue things together. However, people's impression of glue is often liquid, and something that has to be sticky. Is this slippery plastic film really glue? How can it stick to things? Many people may have this question.

In fact, not all adhesives are liquid, and not all adhesives have an initial viscosity. Liquid glue with initial viscosity is just a common understanding of glue, because most of the glue that people come into contact with in life is this substance, so people have a preconceived notion.

TPU hot melt adhesive film is a solid adhesive, which belongs to a kind of hot melt adhesive products. For example, the hot melt glue sticks used in our lives are also a type of hot melt adhesive products. As a hot melt adhesive, it is solid at room temperature, so it is not sticky. When we use TPU hot melt adhesive film products, we generally heat it first and melt it before it becomes sticky. After the TPU hot melt adhesive film is cooled again, the TPU hot melt adhesive film becomes solid again. At this time, it has a certain strength of the adhesive effect on the adherend.

The reason why TPU hot melt adhesive film is made into a film product is to meet the production requirements of large-area composite products, especially some large-area composite products that require continuous production. The use of TPU hot melt adhesive film can reduce the glue drop in the workshop, improve the workshop environment, improve its production efficiency, and obtain better and better sizing uniformity.

To sum up, in a word, TPU hot melt adhesive film is such a film-like coil hot melt adhesive product. If you want to learn more, you can browse our other articles or call us directly.

TPU hot melt adhesive film vs anaerobic adhesive: "Scene flexibility" difference in automotive interior bonding
2025-09-11
From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
