What is TPU hot melt adhesive film and what are the ingredients?
TPU hot melt adhesive film is also a kind of film, but it is viscous, that is to say, it is an adhesive, and its main function is to compound adhesive materials. The main component of TPU hot melt adhesive film is TPU, which shows good washing resistance and certain elasticity due to the characteristics of its components. TPU hot melt adhesive film is a thermoplastic adhesive that needs to be heated and melted to become sticky. Although it can also play a certain protective and waterproof role, its essence is adhesive.

There are two commonly used methods for producing TPU hot melt adhesive films. The first method is to clamp the melt of the TPU hot melt adhesive film with two layers of release paper after the extrusion die comes out, and extrude the TPU hot melt adhesive film through the forming roller. The release paper plays a protective role, and a layer of release paper is wasted. The second method is to use a layer of release paper and coat Teflon on the forming roll on the melted side of the TPU. However, in the production process, the Teflon on the forming roller will still occasionally adhere to the melt of the TPU hot melt adhesive film, resulting in defects such as bubbles between the release paper and the TPU hot melt adhesive film, resulting in an increase in the defect rate, and a period of production Teflon will gradually disappear due to wear and tear over time. Therefore, it is necessary to recoat a layer of Teflon, which is very expensive. Therefore, the first method is generally selected for production.

Simply put, the TPU hot melt adhesive film is heated at high temperature to melt it. When it changes from a solid state to a viscous liquid state, the liquid glue infiltrates the surface of the object to be adhered while applying a certain pressure. After the hot melt adhesive is cold-cured, a cohesive force is created to firmly bond the two materials. So far, TPU hot melt adhesive film has completed its mission.

Whether it is TPU hot melt adhesive film or hot-melt adhesive film of other materials, it is an environmentally friendly adhesive. It is believed that in the future, more composite fields will choose TPU hot melt adhesive film as a suitable adhesive.

TPU hot melt adhesive film vs anaerobic adhesive: "Scene flexibility" difference in automotive interior bonding
2025-09-11
From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
