Properties and characteristics of TPU film

Yellowing resistance grade

The yellowing is mainly due to the yellowing of the TPU film due to continuous UV exposure. There are various inspection standards for yellowing resistance, the main factors are UV wattage, irradiation distance, time, temperature and humidity, etc.

Rebound performance

The deformation and rebound of the TPU film is mainly characterized by the immediate recovery of the TPU film after being deformed by an external force.

frictional resistance

The TPU film is extrusion cast from thermoplastic elastomer polyurethane particles. Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer particles are heat storage materials, and frictional heat generation, constant pressure and surface wear of sandpaper reflect the wear resistance of the material. The abrasion resistance of polyurethane particles is closely related to thermal properties, friction leads to an increase in temperature, abrasion resistance is the loss per unit volume or mass, and thermal properties are torsion forces at different temperatures. This is an important criterion for evaluating product wear resistance and high temperature adaptability.

Hydrolysis resistance

TPU film is resistant to hydrolysis and microorganisms, and can be used for a long time.

Antibacterial and mildew proof

In harsh environments, bacteria, moisture and high temperature will damage the TPU film, and the TPU film with antibacterial and anti-mildew functions can effectively prevent this from happening.

At present, TPU film is mainly used to make high-grade liner materials with high material performance requirements, such as air cushions, electric massage chair liner materials, rubber boats and inflatable boat liner materials for water operations, hoisting liner materials, national defense or Civil aircraft liner material, spherical membrane and liner, etc.

​From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
