What types of hot melt adhesive films are there?

The correct choice does not mean that the compounding of materials must be smooth, because there is a very important factor in the entire compounding process that will directly affect the bonding effect - temperature! Temperature has a great influence on the use of hot melt adhesive films.

Depending on the hot melt adhesive film with or without substrate:

Hot melt adhesive films with substrates are generally used in product processes that require secondary molding, and hot melt adhesive films without substrates are used in product processes for composite molding.

According to whether the hot melt adhesive film has a substrate, it can be divided into three types: release film, release paper and no substrate. Among them, hot melt adhesive films with release paper are generally more expensive, followed by release films, which are relatively cheap without substrates.

The temperature that the hot melt adhesive film is more suitable for welding is based on the temperature resistance of the material to be adhered, and then the type ofhot melt adhesive film used is selected according to the requirements of the material. compatibility. Through these two dimensions, we can basically determine which specification of hot melt adhesive film to use.

According to high and low temperature:

Strictly speaking, high and low temperature cannot be used as the basis for the classification of hot melt adhesive films, but more as a reference for the selection of hot melt adhesive films.

The main method of classifying hot melt adhesive films is still based on material. Whether there is a substrate, the type of high and low temperature, width and thickness are all dimensions used to select specific specifications as a reference. The material of the hot melt adhesive films is suitable for the industry, and the compounding process and conditions of the product determine the melting point, width and thickness of the hot melt adhesive films to be selected.

TPU hot melt adhesive film vs anaerobic adhesive: "Scene flexibility" difference in automotive interior bonding
2025-09-11
From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
