TPU hot melt adhesive film needs to be heated and melted to have adhesive properties

TPU hot melt adhesive film has been used in many industries, such as footwear and clothing. In fact, different industries have different requirements for TPU hot melt adhesive films, and the specific processes are also different. How to make the TPU hot melt adhesive film have a strong bonding effect is a problem that many users care about.

TPU hot melt adhesive film needs to be heated and melted to be viscous, otherwise it is almost no different from ordinary plastic film. Therefore, temperature is the primary condition for good adhesion of TPU hot melt adhesive film.

TPU hot melt adhesive films of different materials have different melting temperatures, namely high and low temperatures. If the heating temperature is higher than the temperature required for the TPU hot-melt adhesive film, the TPU hot-melt adhesive film will melt too fast or too much, so that the glue will easily penetrate into the material to be glued. Especially in some textile fields, if the temperature is too high, the glue will penetrate and affect the bonding effect.

What is TPU hot melt adhesive film and what are its characteristics?

The main component of TPU hot melt adhesive film is thermosetting polyurethane material, so it is also called thermosetting polyurethane material TPU hot melt adhesive film. It has excellent washability and good flexibility, and is the most popular TPU hot melt adhesive film among all materials. TPU film is divided into high melting point type and low melting point type. Not only the working temperature is different, but the characteristics are also very different. The high temperature TPU film is malleable and the color is completely transparent. The higher the melting point, the higher the elasticity and transparency of the TPU film. The ultra-low temperature TPU film is inelastic and the color is milky white frosted.

TPU hot melt adhesive film is a recyclable environmentally friendly product, and the loss rate is low in the whole process of making and using TPU hot melt adhesive film. The cut film scraps can be fully recycled and reused in the process of making key materials, and have the environmental protection advantages of reducing energy consumption, activation temperature, initial setting, carbon dioxide emissions, and reducing costs. Moreover, the time required for the complete activation of the TPU hot melt adhesive film is relatively short, and the traditional knitted yarn tape can only be fully activated at a lower temperature.

TPU hot melt adhesive film vs anaerobic adhesive: "Scene flexibility" difference in automotive interior bonding
2025-09-11
From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
