What are the main application areas of tpu film?

At present, the use and consumption of TPU films are mainly concentrated in footwear materials, waterproof and breathable textiles, high-end handbags, luggage, leather goods, inflatable bags and other industries.

1. Shoe materials.

The TPU film upper material generally consists of three layers: the surface is a PU layer, which is used to color the upper and print lines; the inner layer is a TPU film, which is part of the main body of the cloth, which determines the key performance characteristics of the upper; It is a TPU hot-melt adhesive, and its key role is to act as an adhesive to complete the bonding of the TPU upper material and the shoe body. The TPU membrane shoe upper material can take advantage of the excellent adhesion properties of the underlying TPU hot melt adhesive, and immediately satisfy and inhibit the formation of shoes without the need for sewing processes, so it is also called TPU seamless shoe upper.

Due to the good performance of the TPU films upper and the production method does not require manual cutting, the TPU film upper material is gradually being used, replacing the PU microfiber leather and PU outer space leather with the upper of medium and high-end casual shoes on a large scale. At present, many first-tier sports shoe brands around the world have used TPU membranes for uppers, and domestic second-tier sports shoe brands have gradually begun to use TPU membranes for uppers.

2. Waterproof and breathable textiles.

TPU films has strong adhesion and can be bonded with a variety of materials to become a high-performance composite material. TPU waterproof and breathable membranes are widely used in apparel products, mobilization products, cultural and sports products, medical products and other industries. The waterproof and breathable composite fabric is composed of ordinary home textile fabrics and high-tech waterproof and breathable films such as TPU films. It is a new technology product integrating waterproof, breathable, windproof, coldproof and warmth. It is called "breathable fabric" or "human The second skin".

3. High-end handbags, bags and leather goods.

At present, cowhide, pvc artificial leather and fabric are the three most common materials for high-end handbags and luggage leather goods. TPU films has excellent properties such as waterproof and breathable, anti-yellowing, hydrolysis resistance, and heat resistance. Its application in high-end handbags, luggage and leather goods mainly caters to the above three materials, and produces luggage, decorative designs, spare parts, etc., so that it has stronger tactile and physical characteristics.

Due to price reasons, TPU films has only been used as a material for luggage and leather goods in recent years, and only medium and high-end luxury handbags and luggage leather goods have been used, but the demand is showing a continuous growth trend. With stricter supervision and restrictions on molding materials such as PU and PVC in Europe, America and Japan, molding materials such as PVC and PU will gradually be replaced by energy-saving TPU. It is expected that in the next two years, the market share of TPU films in high-end handbags, bags, and leather goods will continue to grow.

4. Inflatable bag.

TPU is a new type of inflatable airbag material, and its development trend is very rapid in recent years. Compared with polyvinyl chloride and traditional vulcanized rubber tape, it has obvious advantages. TPU has unmatched tensile strength, resilience, abrasion resistance and low-temperature bending resistance that vulcanized rubber or polyvinyl chloride can't match. It also has excellent acid and alkali resistance, aging resistance and weather resistance. The flexibility and impact toughness of the material are better than that of PVC. It is impossible for PVC to carry many tackifiers that are easy to evaporate, which will cause the material to become hard and brittle, and the performance of mechanical equipment will decrease. However, due to the high price,TPU films is currently mainly used to make high-grade bladder materials with high material performance requirements, such as air cushions, bladder materials for electric massage chairs, bladder materials for inflatable boats and inflatable boats for water operations, and lifting Bladder materials for hoisting, bladder materials for national defense or civil aircraft, spherical membranes and inner tanks, etc.

TPU hot melt adhesive film vs anaerobic adhesive: "Scene flexibility" difference in automotive interior bonding
2025-09-11
From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
