Hot melt adhesive film needs to be heated and melted to have adhesiveness

Hot melt adhesive films have been used in many industries, such as footwear and clothing. In fact, different industries have different requirements for hot melt adhesive films, and the specific processes are also different. How to make the hot melt adhesive film obtain a strong bonding effect is a problem that many users care about.

Hot melt adhesive film needs to be heated and melted to be sticky, otherwise it is almost no different from ordinary plastic film. Therefore, temperature is the primary condition for good adhesion of  hot melt adhesive film.

hot melt adhesive film of different materials have different melting temperatures, namely high and low temperatures. If the heating temperature is higher than the temperature required for the hot-melt adhesive film, the hot-melt adhesive film will melt too fast or excessively, so that the glue can easily penetrate into the material to be adhered. Especially in some textile fields, if the temperature is too high, the glue will penetrate and affect the bonding effect.

At present, there are many parts that need to be glued in the shoe material industry, such as insoles, uppers, soles, shoe labels, etc. According to different materials and production processes, there are different types of  hot melt adhesive films to choose from, such as TPU hot melt adhesive film, EVA hot melt adhesive film, PO hot melt adhesive film, pes hot melt adhesive film, etc. The fusible film we introduced today is mainly used for bonding EVA foam in insoles. There are many kinds of insole materials, such as sponge, cloth, leather, EVA and so on.

The production of shoe soles usually adopts EVA foaming process. This production process is to inject the material into the mold and heat it at a high temperature to form a midsole. Foamed products have good resilience and shock absorption performance, and have high wearing comfort. When bonding EVA foam to the upper, it is recommended to use EVA hot melt adhesive film, because they are all composed of the same material-vinyl acetate copolymer, and the strong attraction between the molecules makes them firmly bonded together .

The pressing equipment used to melt the  hot melt adhesive film is set at a lower temperature, thereby reducing energy consumption and saving economic costs. First, consider what kind of  hot melt adhesive film is suitable for the material of the bonding part. Generally speaking, EVA and TPU  hot melt adhesive film are suitable for most shoe materials, and the bonding effect is very good. Secondly, we must consider the appropriate operating temperature, because improper temperature operation will not play the value of film production. Please consult our staff for details. Finally, consider whether the hot melt adhesive film is washable and high temperature resistant.

TPU hot melt adhesive film vs anaerobic adhesive: "Scene flexibility" difference in automotive interior bonding
2025-09-11
From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
