TPU hot melt adhesive film solves the bonding pain points in all scenes of automotive interiors

The bonding quality of automotive interiors is directly related to product reputation and market competitiveness. From the long-term durability of the seats to the extreme environmental adaptability of the instrument panel, from the multi-material composite of the door panels to the lightweight requirements of the ceiling, traditional bonding processes are often limited. TPU hot melt adhesive film has proven its value in the practice of more than 300 automotive interior factories with its scenario-based solutions. The following real cases further demonstrate its irreplaceability.

Seat bonding: Stable answer under 100,000 vibration tests

A manufacturer in Shenzhen that specializes in new energy car seats has long suffered from the shortcomings of traditional solvent glues: the complaint rate for seat leather degumming in the northern market reaches 5% in winter, and complaints about high temperatures and odors occur frequently in the southern market in summer. The production of a single seat takes 4 hours and is inefficient. After switching to TPU hot-melt adhesive film, the manufacturer used a pre-coating process to compound the adhesive film on the leather surface, heated it to 150°C and pressed it for 20 seconds to complete the bonding. The production time for a single seat was reduced to 25 minutes, and the efficiency increased by 87.5%. More importantly, after the seats submitted for inspection have undergone 100,000 simulated driving vibration tests, the bonding strength still retains more than 95%, and there is no degumming phenomenon during high and low temperature cycle tests from -40°C to 120°C. The degumming complaint rate in the northern market has dropped to 0.3%, and odor complaints have been completely eliminated. After another Shenzhen seat factory used the film, the production line speed increased from 5 meters per minute to 8 meters, and the efficiency directly increased by 60%.

Instrument panel and central control: maintaining quality in extreme environments

A car company in Northeast China had frequent complaints about wrinkling of the dashboard surface due to the embrittlement of traditional water-based glue in low-temperature environments. New energy vehicle cabins are more tightly sealed and need to frequently undergo a cycle of "-30°C low-temperature start - 60°C high-temperature preheating", which places strict requirements on the weather resistance of the adhesive. After using TPU hot-melt adhesive film and optimizing the formula, the company achieved a strong bond between the ABS base material and the soft skin without pretreatment. In the Harbin winter actual vehicle test, it still maintained a smooth fit without wrinkles and degumming after 200 high and low temperature cycles, while the traditional adhesive control group showed obvious bulges after 50 cycles. At the same time, the formaldehyde concentration in the cabin dropped from 0.08mg/m³ to 0.02mg/m³, which is far below the national standard limit. It successfully passed the EU ELV environmental certification and successfully entered the European market.

​From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
