The impact of high temperatures in summer on TPU film ventilation bags and countermeasures

As the temperature continues to rise in summer, the temperature inside the car can often reach 60-70 degrees Celsius, which poses a severe test to various materials in the car. TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) film is widely used in automotive ventilation bags and other components due to its excellent elasticity and wear resistance. However, the softening problem of TPU materials in high temperature environments does deserve attention.

Characteristics and temperature sensitivity of TPU films

TPU film is a polymer material between rubber and plastic, and its glass transition temperature is usually between 80-120°C. At room temperature, TPU exhibits good mechanical properties and shape stability. But when the ambient temperature approaches or exceeds its softening point, the movement of molecular segments intensifies and the material gradually loses its rigidity. In summer, the temperature inside a sealed vehicle can reach over 70°C, which is close to the initial softening temperature of some low-end TPU materials.

The impact mechanism of high temperature on ventilation bags

In a sustained high-temperature environment, TPU film ventilation bags may face three challenges: First, the softening of the material itself causes structural deformation and loss of its original shape; second, the support force decreases, which may affect the ventilation effect; and most importantly, repeated thermal cycles can cause material fatigue and accelerate the aging process. It is worth noting that the temperature resistance of TPU materials with different formulas varies significantly, and high-quality products usually add heat stabilizers to improve high temperature resistance.

Solutions to deal with the effects of high temperatures

In order to ensure the reliability of TPU ventilation bags under high temperatures in summer, multiple protective measures can be taken: choosing high-temperature-resistant TPU materials (temperature resistance up to 120°C or more) is the fundamental solution; using sunshades when the vehicle is parked can reduce the temperature inside the vehicle by 15-20°C; regularly check the status of the ventilation bags and replace aging parts in a timely manner; new composite structural designs, such as adding internal support frames, can also effectively prevent high-temperature deformation.

    Summary

Although high temperatures in summer will indeed have a certain impact on ordinary TPU film ventilation bags, through material selection and appropriate protective measures, the deformation problem can be completely avoided. It is recommended that consumers pay attention to the temperature resistance parameters of the product when purchasing, and develop good vehicle sun protection habits. This can not only extend the service life of the ventilation bag, but also ensure that its functionality is not affected by seasonal changes.

TPU hot melt adhesive film vs anaerobic adhesive: "Scene flexibility" difference in automotive interior bonding
2025-09-11
From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
