Are TPU membrane airbags prone to problems in extreme climates? How to improve environmental adaptability?

    High-quality TPU membrane airbags are **not prone to core failure** in extreme climates. Its material properties can cover most harsh environments. The specific adaptability and improvement plans are as follows:

    1. Extreme climate adaptability verification: The TPU film has been verified by industry authoritative tests. It can be bent 1,000 times without cracks in a low temperature environment of -40°C (far exceeding the extreme low temperature requirements of -30°C in northern winter). It can be kept at a constant temperature of 120°C for 48 hours without glue flow or dimensional distortion (it can cope with 100°C+ high temperature scenarios in the interior of vehicles after being exposed to the sun in summer). In a high-altitude, low-pressure environment (such as an altitude of 5,000 meters), the air bag's air tightness still meets the standard after 5,000 inflation and deflation cycles, with a pressure drop rate of <3%, making it fully suitable for use in complex areas.

    2. Targeted environment improvement strategy:

    - Severely cold and high-humidity areas (such as Northeast China and the Yangtze River Delta in winter): Give priority to "low-temperature hydrolysis-resistant TPU film", which must meet the bond strength retention rate of ≥85% at 80°C and 95% humidity after -40°C × 72 hours of low-temperature storage to avoid superimposed damage from low-temperature embrittlement and moisture hydrolysis;

    - High-temperature exposure areas (such as Hainan and Xinjiang): Use "weather-resistant TPU film". After passing the UV3000-hour aging test, the fracture strength retention rate is ≥75% and the yellowing index ΔE <4, to prevent aging and brittleness of the film caused by high-temperature exposure;

    - Areas with high salt spray (such as coastal cities): additional salt spray resistance of the membrane is required (5% NaCl solution spraying for 1000 hours without corrosion), and the heat-sealed joints adopt a "secondary edge sealing process" to avoid salt spray eroding the joints and causing air leakage;

    3. Production auxiliary guarantee: Before the finished product leaves the factory, it is necessary to add an "extreme environment simulation test" - 500 times of charging and deflating at low temperature -40°C + 500 times of charging and deflating at high temperature of 120°C. Only if there are no cracks and the air tightness reaches the standard can it be shipped out of the factory to avoid the risk of extreme climate failure from the source.

TPU hot melt adhesive film vs anaerobic adhesive: "Scene flexibility" difference in automotive interior bonding
2025-09-11
From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
