Can the fatigue life of TPU membrane air bags meet industry standards? How to improve service life through parameter control?

    Massage seat airbags made of high-quality TPU film can not only easily meet industry standards, but can also achieve super-standard durability through parameter optimization. The specific instructions are as follows:

    1. Industry standard adaptability: The current mainstream fatigue life standard for car massage seat airbags is "after 100,000 inflation and deflation cycle tests, the airbag has no rupture, air tightness decreases ≤10%, and mechanical strength retention rate ≥70%". High-quality TPU film (such as elongation at break 400% +, Shore hardness 80A-85A models) can easily pass this test. Some high-end models can still maintain stable core performance after 200,000 cycle tests, fully meeting the life cycle requirements of 8 years/150,000 kilometers for family cars and 5 years/300,000 kilometers for commercial vehicles.

    2. Core parameter control strategy:

    - Elongation at break: It needs to be controlled above 400% (preferably 450%-500%). This parameter directly determines the deformation redundancy of the airbag - the deformation range of the massage seat airbag can reach 30%-50% in a single inflation and deflation. High elongation can avoid "stress accumulation cracking" caused by repeated deformation, and the fatigue life of the TPU film with 300% elongation is increased by more than 60%;

    - Taber wear value: ≤50mg/1000 times (CS-10 grinding wheel, 1000g load). The lower the wear value, the smaller the loss of the inner wall of the airbag during inflation and deflation friction and the friction with the fabric, which can reduce the risk of "wear and perforation" and is especially suitable for high-frequency use scenarios of commercial vehicles;

    - Thermal shrinkage rate: Strictly controlled at 1%-3% (120°C × 2h test conditions). If the shrinkage rate exceeds 5%, continuous internal stress will be generated at the joints of the airbag after heat sealing and molding. The concentration of stress during repeated inflation and deflation can easily lead to "joint cracking". It is necessary to choose a TPU film with a biaxial stretching process to reduce the shrinkage rate;

    - Wall thickness synergy: Optimize in collaboration with thickness parameters. The life span is optimal when the mainstream thickness of 0.1-0.2mm is matched with the above parameters. If the thickness is too thin (<0.08mm), even if the parameters meet the standards, fatigue will be accelerated due to insufficient wall thickness. If it is too thick (>0.3mm), the flexibility will be reduced and stress loss will be increased.

    3. Additional safeguards: In addition to parameter selection, the "arc transition joint" design and fatigue-resistant heat sealant (peel strength ≥ 4N/25mm) are used in production, which can further improve the overall fatigue life and increase the life of conventional process products by 20%-30%.

TPU hot melt adhesive film vs anaerobic adhesive: "Scene flexibility" difference in automotive interior bonding
2025-09-11
From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
