TPU hot melt adhesive film: an invisible hero who enhances the "detail texture" of the car interior
TPU hot melt adhesive film: The invisible hero who improves the "detail texture" of the car interior is not only reflected in the overall design, but also hidden in the details - whether the skin is flat, the touch is delicate, and the splicing is seamless. These details directly affect the user's driving experience.

With its unique bonding characteristics, TPU hot melt adhesive film has become an "invisible hero" who optimizes the details of the interior, improving the interior quality from three details dimensions.

First, achieve "wrinkle-free" epidermis to improve visual precision. Car interior skins (such as door panel skins, seat skins) are mostly made of flexible materials (PU leather, knitted fabrics). When bonding to hard substrates (PP, ABS), if the adhesive is unevenly coated or cured and contracted, it is easy to cause wrinkles and bubbles to appear on the skin, which seriously affects the visual effect. The TPU hot melt adhesive film adopts the bonding method of "pre-coated glue + uniform heating". It can be cut into precise sizes according to the shape of the skin in advance and is attached to the back of the skin. When heated, the adhesive film is evenly melted and closely fits with the surface of the substrate. There is no obvious shrinkage during the curing process, which can effectively avoid wrinkles and bubbles. For example, in the bonding of seat skins of high-end models, the use of TPU hot melt adhesive film can achieve a seamless fit between the skin and the sponge. The surface of the skin is flat and smooth, without any wrinkles. Compared with the seats bonded with traditional solvent glue (local folds are prone to occur due to uneven glue coating), the visual precision is significantly improved. In addition, the TPU hot melt adhesive film has good transparency. When used for light-colored or fine-textured skin bonding, there will be no glue marks and color transmission, and maintain the original texture and color texture of the skin.

Second, optimize the "delicate touch" and enhance the user interaction experience. In the interior of the car, the steering wheel, door panel handrail, center console and other parts that frequently come into contact with people directly affect the user experience. After curing traditional adhesives (such as modified silane glue), the adhesive layer is thick and hard, which will cause the parts to feel stiff; while solvent glue may cause the skin to have a slight stickiness due to solvent residue, affecting the touch. The TPU hot melt adhesive film has a thin thickness (0.1-0.5mm), and the adhesive layer is flexible after curing, and the elongation rate of break can reach 300%-500%. It can perfectly follow the elastic deformation of the skin material and will not change the original soft touch of the skin. For example, the steering wheel PU leather that uses TPU hot melt adhesive film can still feel the soft and elasticity of the leather when holding it, and there is no stiffness. However, the steering wheel that uses modified silane glue has a significantly harder touch due to the thick adhesive layer. At the same time, the surface of the TPU hot melt adhesive film is not sticky after curing and will not adsorb dust. The epidermis can still maintain a refreshing touch after long-term use, avoiding the problem that the epidermis of traditional adhesives is easy to stick to dust and difficult to clean.

TPU hot melt adhesive film vs anaerobic adhesive: "Scene flexibility" difference in automotive interior bonding
2025-09-11
From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
