Application of TPU membrane in car seat lumbar support: Analysis of key performance of TPU membrane

    1. High strength and excellent elasticity

The TPU film has a remarkable high strength, and its tensile strength easily exceeds 30MPa. Some high-performance products can even reach more than 60MPa. This means that when the car seat lumbar support is frequently subjected to the human lumbar pressure, the lumbar support airbag or support structure made of TPU membrane can remain stable for a long time and is not prone to deformation or rupture. At the same time, the TPU film has excellent elasticity and can quickly return to its original state after being compressed, providing continuous and stable support for the waist. Whether it is driving for a long time or adjusting the sitting position frequently, the TPU membrane waist support can accurately fit the lumbar curve, effectively alleviating waist fatigue.

    2. Excellent wear and weather resistance

The use environment of car seats is complex, and the lumbar support area is inevitably subject to friction and various climate tests. The surface hardness of the TPU film has moderate wear resistance and is outstanding, which can resist scratches and wear during daily use. Even in extreme climates such as high temperature exposure, low temperature and severe cold, the TPU membrane can still maintain stable physical properties. In a low temperature environment of -40℃, it will not become brittle and crack; at a high temperature of 120℃, it will not soften or deform, and always provides reliable guarantee for the waist support.

    3. Good air tightness and waterproofness

For airbag waist support, airtightness is the core performance indicator. The TPU membrane has a tight molecular structure and excellent airtightness. It can effectively prevent gas leakage and ensure that the waist support airbag maintains stable pressure for a long time after inflation, bringing continuous and comfortable support to the waist. In addition, the waterproof performance of the TPU membrane is also excellent, which can withstand daily liquid splashing and avoid the service life and performance of the waist support due to moisture. This is of great significance to the possible unexpected situations such as water cup rollover in the car.

TPU hot melt adhesive film vs anaerobic adhesive: "Scene flexibility" difference in automotive interior bonding
2025-09-11
From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
