TPU film: high performance and environmental protection and innovative materials

Among them, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film has been widely used in many industries with unique properties, and is gradually becoming a bright star in the field of materials science.

    First, the basic characteristics of TPU film

    TPU film is made on the basis of TPU granule material, through calendering, casting, blown film, coating and other special processes. It has high strength and excellent elasticity, can withstand large external forces and quickly return to its original state, not easy to produce permanent deformation. In addition, TPU film also has the following significant characteristics:

    Abrasion resistance: its surface hardness is moderate, excellent abrasion resistance, can maintain stability in harsh environments.

    Temperature resistance: it can maintain stability in the temperature range of -40℃ to 120℃.

    Chemical resistance: Due to the stability of the urethane bond in the molecular structure, TPU functional groups can resist corrosion by acids, alkalis and many organic solvents.

    Moisture permeability: making it ideal for applications where breathability is required.

    Anti-aging and UV resistance: able to maintain a stable appearance and characteristics in all types of outdoor use in the long term.

    Second, the wide range of applications of TPU film

    TPU film because of its unique properties, in a number of areas to show a broad application prospects:

    Automotive field: TPU film can be used in the vehicle's interior and exterior decorative materials, such as seat materials, door trim panels, etc., to enhance the comfort and aesthetics of the vehicle. At the same time, it can also be used for automotive glass protection film to effectively protect the glass from scratches and impacts.

    Electronic field: In electronic products, TPU film is often used as a flexible display panel, promoting the development of electronic products in the direction of thinner, lighter and softer. ​From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
