New solution for sponge bonding: TPU hot melt adhesive film

One of the new solutions for sponge bonding is to use TPU hot melt adhesive film. This solution has many advantages. The following is a detailed analysis of this solution:

    1. Overview of TPU hot melt adhesive film

TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) hot melt adhesive film is a hot melt adhesive product made of polyurethane material. It combines the excellent properties of polyurethane materials, such as high elasticity, wear resistance, low temperature resistance, etc., with the easy processability and rapid bonding characteristics of hot melt adhesive.

    2. Advantages of TPU hot melt adhesive film in sponge bonding

Excellent compatibility: The main component of TPU hot melt adhesive film is polyurethane, which has a similar molecular formula to polyurethane sponge. According to the principle of "like attracts like", its viscosity is very good and can achieve strong bonding between sponge materials.

Environmental performance: TPU hot melt adhesive film does not produce harmful substances during processing and use, meets environmental protection requirements, and is conducive to sustainable development.

Easy to operate: When using TPU hot melt adhesive film for sponge bonding, you only need to place the hot melt adhesive film on the surface of the sponge to be bonded, melt the adhesive film through heating, and then press it together. The operation is simple and fast.

Water-washing resistance: TPU hot melt adhesive film has good water-washing resistance and can maintain the firmness of the bond even in a water-washing environment.

Wide scope of application: In addition to polyurethane sponge, TPU hot melt adhesive film can also be used for bonding a variety of other materials, such as cloth, leather, etc., with wide applicability.

    3. Steps to use TPU hot melt adhesive film for sponge bonding

Preparation work: Clean the surface of the sponge to be bonded to ensure that there is no dust, oil and other impurities.

Place the hot melt adhesive film: Cut the TPU hot melt adhesive film according to the shape and size required for bonding, and place it on the bonding surface of the sponge.

Heating and melting: Use professional heating equipment to heat the hot melt adhesive film to melt it and spread it evenly on the surface of the sponge.

Pressure bonding: Gently press another sponge on the sponge coated with hot melt adhesive film, and use your fingers or a smooth object to squeeze the two surfaces together to ensure that the hot melt adhesive film can fully flow and fill. The voids on the surface of the sponge.

Solidification and cooling: Wait for a period of time to allow the hot melt adhesive film to cool and solidify naturally at room temperature to complete the bonding process.

TPU hot melt adhesive film vs anaerobic adhesive: "Scene flexibility" difference in automotive interior bonding
2025-09-11
From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
