Heating Temperature of Hot Melt Adhesive Film

The heating temperature of Hot Melt Adhesive Film is not fixed, but varies according to specific materials, applications and types.

Normally, the softening point of Hot Melt Adhesive Film should be above 80℃, that is, when heated to 80℃, the gel starts to soften and dissolve. However, this is only the temperature at which the hot melt adhesive begins to melt, and the heating temperature may need to rise to higher temperatures in order to bring it to a point where it can be bonded. For example, for hot melt adhesives specifically used for bookbinding, the melting point is usually between 65°C and 84°C; and for hot melt adhesives used to seal furniture edges, the melting point is usually between 70°C and 84°C. In addition, the melting point of the Hot Melt Adhesive Film is typically between 120°C and 160°C.

In some specific cases, such as TPU Hot Melt Adhesive Film, its processing temperature also needs special attention. Usually, the softening temperature of TPU Hot Melt Adhesive Film is also above 80°C. When heated to this temperature, TPU Hot Melt Adhesive Film starts to soften and melt. However, the heating temperature may need to rise to 130°C to 180°C in order to reach a point where items such as books can be bonded.

Please note that these are general temperature ranges and the exact heating temperature should also be determined based on the exact specifications of the Hot Melt Adhesive Film you are using and the manufacturer's recommendations. During operation, be sure to follow the product instructions and safety procedures to avoid accidents caused by excessive temperatures.

In addition, different heating methods and equipment may also have an effect on the heating temperature, so fine-tuning may be necessary in practice depending on the circumstances. To ensure optimum bonding results and safety, it is recommended to carry out a small-scale test before use to find the most suitable heating temperature and time.

TPU hot melt adhesive film vs anaerobic adhesive: "Scene flexibility" difference in automotive interior bonding
2025-09-11
From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
