What factors will cause the performance of TPU hot melt adhesive film to decline?

TPU hot melt adhesive film is a high-performance adhesive that is widely used for bonding and sealing various materials. However, during use, some factors may cause its performance to degrade. This article will explore these factors to better understand how to improve the performance of TPU hot melt adhesive film.

    1. Temperature and time

The performance of TPU hot melt adhesive film is closely related to the temperature and time it withstands. High temperatures and prolonged heat exposure may cause the adhesive film to gradually lose its properties, resulting in a decrease in bond strength. Therefore, during use, long-term high temperature exposure should be avoided as much as possible and the recommendations in the product manual should be followed to ensure the best use effect.

    2. Humidity

Humidity is also an important factor affecting the performance of TPU hot melt adhesive film. If the humidity in the environment is too high, the adhesive film may absorb moisture and expand, thus affecting its bonding performance. In addition, if the surface of the bonded material contains moisture, it may also affect the bonding effect of the adhesive film. Therefore, before use, the bonded materials should be dried and the relative humidity of the use environment should be below 50%.

    3. Ultraviolet irradiation

Ultraviolet irradiation is another important factor that causes the performance of TPU hot melt adhesive film to decline. Long-term exposure to UV radiation may cause the film to gradually degrade, thereby reducing its bonding performance. Therefore, during use, ultraviolet exposure should be avoided as much as possible, and the lighting conditions of the use environment should meet the requirements.

    4. Contact with chemical substances

Certain chemicals may react with the TPU hot melt adhesive film, causing its performance to degrade. For example, acidic and alkaline substances may gradually degrade the adhesive film, thereby reducing its bonding performance. Therefore, during use, you should try to avoid contact with these chemicals and follow the recommendations in the product instructions to ensure the best use results.

    5. Mechanical stress

Mechanical stress is another factor that leads to the degradation of TPU hot melt adhesive film performance. During the bonding process, if excessive force or excessive compression of the material to be bonded may cause the adhesive film to be affected by mechanical stress and reduce its bonding performance. Therefore, during use, the recommendations of the product manual should be followed and the impact of mechanical stress should be minimized as much as possible.

To sum up, factors such as temperature and time, humidity, ultraviolet radiation, exposure to chemical substances, and mechanical stress may cause the performance of TPU hot melt adhesive films to decline. In order to improve its performance, the influence of these factors should be avoided as much as possible and the recommendations in the product manual should be followed.

TPU hot melt adhesive film vs anaerobic adhesive: "Scene flexibility" difference in automotive interior bonding
2025-09-11
From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
