Properties of TPU Film

    TPU Film is a material with -NH-COO group in the molecule. Long chain diols and isocyanates form the soft chain segments, while short chain diols and isocyanates form the hard chain segments. many properties of TPU Films depend on the type of long chain diols, and their hardness is regulated by the ratio of hard chain segments.     Properties of TPU Film

    Hydrolysis resistance: TPU Film has good water resistance in turbid water and will not hydrolyze significantly in 1-2 years. Polyester series will be completely hydrolyzed in water at 50 degrees Celsius for six months or 70 degrees Celsius for 3 weeks or 100 degrees Celsius for 3-4 days, which is one of the reasons why TPU Film is suitable for environmental protection.

    Airtightness: TPU Film is very easy to be welded by high frequency or hot pressing, so it is widely used in inflatable products. Generally speaking, the air tightness of polyester series products is better than polyether series.

    High temperature and oxidation resistance: TPU Films have good oxidation resistance, up to 130 degrees Celsius for polyester series and up to 90 degrees Celsius for polyether series.

    Biomedical performance: TPU Film has excellent biocompatibility, non-toxic, non-allergic reaction, non-local irritation, non-pyrogenic, widely used in medical, health and other related products as well as sports and protective equipment.

    Tearing performance: TPU Film has high tear resistance and tear strength better than ordinary rubber and plastic.

    Wear resistance: 5 times more wear resistant than natural rubber, one of the preferred materials for wear resistant products.

​From the perspective of curing conditions, TPU hot melt adhesive film does not need to rely on special environments, while anaerobic adhesives are severely restricted by "auerobicity". The curing principle of anaerobic glue is to undergo polymerization under conditions of lack of oxygen and catalyzed by metal ions (such as iron and copper). If it is in an environment where air circulation or metal substrates are not available, the curing speed will be greatly slowed down or even unable to cure. In automotive interiors, most bonding scenarios are "open" (such as bonding the door panel skin to PP substrate, and the ceiling fabric to the sponge), the air can freely contact the bonding surface, and the substrate is mostly non-metallic (PP, ABS, fabric, etc.), lacking metal ion catalysis, and additional catalyst is required when using anaerobic glue, and the curing time is as long as several hours, which is difficult to meet the needs of industrial production. The TPU hot melt adhesive film only needs to be melted by heating (120-160℃) and can be cured after pressurization and cooling. It does not need to rely on the ambient oxygen concentration or the base material. It can be cured stably in open or closed bonding scenarios, and the curing time only takes a few dozen seconds to a few minutes, adapting to the fast-paced needs of the interior production line.
